Zakir Khan, a 44-year-old husband and father, was stabbed several times by his landlord over past due rent. Taha Mahran, the victims landlord, allegedly confronted his tenant outside of his home at 1001 Logan Ave in Throggs Neck on February 22, 2017. The confrontation ended with one man dead, and his assailant behind bars.
According to a report by ABC7, roughly 2000 people attended a service at a Mosque in Parkchester on Friday, February 24, 2017 to pay their last respects. Khan was active in the Parkchester community, having owned his own real estate brokerage firm in the area, Parkchester Real Estate. His website has several listings of available condos for sale in the Parkchester community. Other sources say that Khan had helped them find apartments for rent in the same Bronx NY neighborhood.
Taha Mahran, the victim’s landlord, turned himself in to police shortly after the incident. He is being charged in a Bronx Criminal Court with second degree murder. Sources indicate the victim was stabbed in the chest 7 times. The 51-year-old Mahran had filed eviction papers to have Khan removed from the rental unit, but was apparently unhappy with the progress and decided he needed to take matters into his own hands. He is being held without bail.
Meanwhile, there has been a GoFundMe page started by Mahran’s family and friends to help with expenses. The original goal was to raise $10,000, which was reached in a matter of 8 days. The new goal was raised to $15,000. As of March 16, 2017, 88 people had contributed $10,257 to the page.
